Reconnection and revalorization of the Visconteo bridge and its landscape

The following research takes on place on the city of Valeggio sul Mincio, on the region of Veneto, Italy, surrounded by important cities such as Verona, Peschiera del Garda and Mantua, the city of Valeggio sul Mincio acts as a physical connection between all these settlements, being its most iconic element, the Visconteo bridge the center of all these connections, this distinctive bridge built on the 14th century originally served its purpose as a strategic military checkpoint dividing the boundaries between two territories acting as the western gate of the Veneto territory. The bridge still remains now serving its connection purpose between the region of Veneto and Lombardy, however its decayed condition plus management problems regarding the preservation of the bridge and its definition as public infrastructure has put on question if it should remain continuing serving its purpose as a vehicular connection or if it should be considered for another possible use. This research intends to analyze the actual condition of the bridge and its surroundings, elements such as the history, landscape, mobility, strategies, land use, site issues and restrictions were considered for the creation of three possible solutions that are further analyzed and compared to offer a list of possibilities and suggestions regarding the creation of a new vehicular pass to the city of Valeggio sul Mincio and its nearby settlements.

La presente ricerca si svolge nella città di Valeggio sul Mincio, nella regione Veneto, Italia, circondata da importanti città come Verona, Peschiera del Garda e Mantova, la città di Valeggio sul Mincio funge da collegamento fisico tra tutti questi insediamenti, essendo il suo elemento più iconico, il Ponte Visconteo, il centro di tutti questi collegamenti; questo caratteristico ponte costruito nel XIV secolo aveva originariamente lo scopo di essere un punto di controllo militare strategico che divideva i confini tra due territori, fungendo da porta occidentale del territorio Veneto. Il ponte è ancora in funzione come collegamento tra il Veneto e la Lombardia, ma le sue condizioni di degrado e i problemi di gestione relativi alla conservazione del ponte e alla sua definizione come infrastruttura pubblica hanno messo in discussione l'opportunità di continuare a servire il ponte come collegamento veicolare o di considerarne un altro possibile utilizzo. Questa ricerca intende analizzare le condizioni attuali del ponte e dei suoi dintorni; elementi come la storia, il paesaggio, la mobilità, le strategie, l'uso del territorio, i problemi del sito e i vincoli sono stati presi in considerazione per la creazione di tre possibili soluzioni che sono state ulteriormente analizzate e confrontate per offrire una lista di possibilità e suggerimenti per la creazione di un nuovo passaggio veicolare per la città di Valeggio sul Mincio e i suoi insediamenti vicini.
