Sequenze urbane: rigenerare disegni interrotti

The thesis path we took is the result of reflection and analysis on the theme of Urban Regeneration, in our case applied to the city of Milan. Indeed, the study of the theme allowed us to identify project areas and subsequently how to develop them. Urban Regeneration is an extremely complex theme; at its core, in fact, it contains multiple meanings and that if not adequately explored can mislead from what is actually its real goal: to improve the quality of life of a place by modifying its space in a more or less invasive way. It was from this concept that we started to delve deeper and understand what Urban Regeneration means to us and how to translate the theme to the design level. Subsequent to the study carried out, which we will expound later, it emerges how Urban Regeneration as understood by us is seen as an opportunity for positive change and development through the implementation of projects that go to improve an already urbanized space and in which we will operate through design gestures such as: the lower use of soil water and energy, the inclusion of punctual works that however can emphasize positive and historical features, the renaturalization of open spaces, and the reuse of spaces that are disused and that we consider as urban voids. We thus introduce the second major theme of our Thesis, that of urban voids. In fact, as will be seen, our project was based on the identification of areas that to date, are yes within a rich and complex urban context but which, are often left behind. The emptiness we understand does not imply a physical void but, for the most part, goes to indicate the absence of identity, often weakened because it is taken for granted, thus incentivizing the loss of historical memory of places. Our goal, therefore, is to go about reconstructing the identities of places, through a study of the history of each place that will allow us to resurface the Genius Loci of each. The areas that we will address within the paper have been identified subsequent to the application of the studies just outlined and which highlight a common predominant presence: that of the Theater. We have thus been able to conceive a path, or rather a Promenade, that runs from the Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio to the Palazzo del Senato, crossing Piazza del Duomo and along which the theatrical theme will be treated declined in several forms. Thanks to this thorn that winds along the city of Milan, it is possible to read these places as part of the same design, which in its actual state appears to be interrupted and from which precisely the theme of interrupted designs arises. The goal is therefore, through our projects, to restore places of extreme importance within the urban fabric, treating each in its individuality but putting them in close relation through the use of common tactics, such as the development of the theatrical theme. This gave rise to the desire to approach the theme of tactical projects, understood as paratactic operations with different levels of autonomy, executed by accepting the indeterminacy and fragility of the contexts involved and implementing projects that have a low impact and that often operate in a "silent" manner and thus are able to listen to the places in which they are placed. The choice was dictated by a willingness to embrace the theme of regeneration gently, especially in the historic center, where we have included a few elements that, in our opinion, point to the goal of restoring lost or often hidden identity to places that have always been firm references for the city itself and its inhabitants.

Il percorso di tesi da noi affrontato è frutto di una riflessione e di un’analisi sul tema di Rigenerazione Urbana, nel nostro caso applicato alla città di Milano. Lo studio del tema ci ha infatti permesso di individuare le aree di progetto e successivamente come svilupparle. La Rigenerazione Urbana è un tema estremamente complesso, al suo interno infatti, contiene molteplici significati e che se non approfonditi in modo adeguati possono fuorviare da quello che è in realtà il suo vero obiettivo: migliorare la qualità della vita di un luogo modificando il suo spazio in modo più o meno invasivo. E’ stato proprio da questo concetto da cui siamo partite per approfondire e comprendere che cosa per noi significhi Rigenerazione Urbana e di come tradurre il tema a livello progettuale. Successivamente allo studio svolto, che esporremo successivamente, emerge come la Rigenerazione Urbana da noi intesa sia vista come un’opportunità di cambiamento e sviluppo positivo, attraverso l’attuazione di progetti che vadano a migliorare uno spazio già urbanizzato e in cui si opererà attraverso gesti progettuali quali: il minor utilizzo di suolo acqua ed energia, l’inserimento di opere puntuali che però possano enfatizzare i caratteri positivi e storici, la rinaturalizzazione di spazi aperti, il riuso di spazi in disuso e da noi considerati come vuoti urbani. Introduciamo così il secondo tema portante della Tesi da noi svolta, quella dei vuoti urbani. Come si vedrà infatti, il nostro progetto si è basato sull’individuazione di aree che ad oggi, sono si all’interno di un contesto urbano ricco e complesso ma che, spesso vengono lasciate in disparte. Il vuoto da noi inteso non implica un vuoto fisico ma, per la maggior parte dei casi, va ad indicare l’assenza di identità, spesso affievolita poiché data per scontato, incentivando così la perdita di memoria storica dei luoghi. Il nostro obiettivo è quindi quello di andare a ricostruire le identità dei luoghi, attraverso un percorso di studio sulla storia di ciascun luogo che ci permetterà di far riemergere il Genius Loci di ognuna. Le aree che affronteremo all’interno dell’elaborato sono state individuate successivamente all’applicazione degli studi appena esposti e che mettono in evidenza una presenza predominante comune: quella del Teatro. Siamo state così in grado di concepire un percorso, o meglio una Promenade, che si sviluppa dalla Basilica di Sant’Eustorgio fino a giungere a Palazzo del Senato, attraversando Piazza del Duomo e lungo la quale verrà trattato il tema teatrale declinato in più forme. Grazie a questa spina che si snoda lungo la città di Milano, è possibile leggere questi luoghi come parte di uno stesso disegno, che allo stato di fatto appare interrotto e da cui appunto nasce il tema dei disegni interrotti. L’obiettivo è quindi quello, attraverso i nostri progetti, di risanare luoghi di estrema importanza all’interno del tessuto urbano, trattando ciascuno nella sua individualità ma mettendoli in stretta relazione attraverso l’utilizzo di tattiche comuni, come lo sviluppo del tema teatrale. Da qui è nata la volontà di approcciarci al tema dei progetti tattici, intesi come operazioni paratattiche con diversi livelli di autonomia, eseguite accettando l’indeterminatezza e la fragilità dei contesti coinvolti e attuando progetti a basso impatto e che spesso operano in modo “silenzioso” e quindi in grado di ascoltare i luoghi in cui sono posti. La scelta è stata dettata dalla volontà di accogliere il tema della rigenerazione delicatamente, soprattutto nel centro storico, dove abbiamo inserito pochi elementi che, a nostro parere, puntano all’obiettivo di restituire l’identità perduta o spesso nascosta a luoghi che sono da sempre saldo riferimento per la città stessa e i suoi abitanti.
