The aim of this thesis is to study the main applicative characteristics of the themes of regionalism and sustainability applied to the sphere of architecture, analysed independently and then compared directly, in order to highlight points of synthesis and contact. The concept of architecture, generated in close relationship with its locative context, is in fact the starting point for both the development of regionalist thought and the development - of increasing importance - of the search for a sustainable approach in the sphere of architecture. The study has allowed us to investigate how, despite the fact that the two terminologies are quite recent, these same notions, in their connotative characteristics, are strongly rooted in the past, realisations or writings from distant epochs already seem to theorise and apply the same criteria and techniques theorised in recent times. Therefore, understanding architecture as a product of three intrinsic primary factors, such as time, place, and technology, which progressively influence and characterise its stylistic evolution, the study proposes itself as an analysis of the very evolution of the concept of regionalism in architecture, placing it side by side, in parallel, with that of sustainability. The choice of this duality of spheres lies in the desire to reconcile two apparently separate and sometimes discordant architectural meanings. On the one hand the new contemporary sensitivity towards environmental issues, embodied by the push towards sustainable architecture, and on the other the concept of regionalist architecture, to be understood not as a crystallisation of architectural language, but as a possible prerogative for future development. The point of arrival of the thesis results in the practical materialisation of the theoretical notions studied, through the realisation of a project - based on the pilot projects promoted by the ‘Piano Nazionale Borghi’ within the PNRR - in the village of Stelvio, in a context where the cohesion between man and nature is at its maximum, and where the influence of regional peculiarities on architecture appears evident.

Abstract
The point of arrival of the thesis results in the practical materialisation of the theoretical notions studied, through the realisation of a project - based on the pilot projects promoted by the ‘Piano Nazionale Borghi’ within the PNRR - in the village of Stelvio, in a context where the cohesion between man and nature is at its maximum, and where the influence of regional peculiarities on architecture appears evident.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
