Abstract
In its millennial history, the city of Agrigento has been the scene of encounters and clashes between different peoples and cultures that have given rise to contaminations, reciprocal influences, superimpositions of images, symbols and meanings concerning the ways of living, art and architecture, language and every other aspect of life, starting a slow sedimentation which is the constitutive process of the mestizo of Agrigento's identity. Akragas (‘Aκράγας), Agrigentum, Kerkent, Girgenti, Agrigento; "a plural identity", made up of combinations and fusions of culturally and symbolically different elements, whose relationships are explained or remain hidden and whose origin is lost in oblivion. The proposal for a museum in the city of Agrigento stems from the need to tell its urban history, both in its physical and social and cultural dimensions, with the aim of preserving the memory of the passage of peoples and cultures that have shaped the its identity, often associated exclusively with the Greek period. This story, which examines tangible and intangible testimonies without distinction, uses, for narrative purposes, the four categories through which UNESCO divides heritage: material heritage, intangible heritage, natural heritage and cultural landscape. The four categories, thematically linked to as many notable points of the city, have led to the identification of four possible project areas, in correspondence with urban wounds caused by the collapse of ancient buildings and therefore to the construction of a widespread museum system, in which the new historical works and artifacts interact through an ideal path, which symbolically retraces the phases of definition of the historic city, determining a sort of mystery game that seems to want to discover the ancient traces, paradoxically hiding them, embedded, absorbed and merged into a harmonious whole. For each station, a possible collection is proposed, including drawings, photographs, documents and models useful for developing a path of knowledge aimed at rediscovering a partially forgotten history and providing a complete reading of the city of Agrigento.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
