In the context of chronic illnesses that afflict children, it becomes crucial to ensure not only adequate medical care but also moral and emotional support during the period of hospitalisation, where the consequences of the disease show up both on a psychological and physical level. This pain also extends to the child's families, who face emotional and practical challenges in managing the illness and ensuring their child's well-being. Volunteering for children in hospitals presents itself as a valuable resource that can offer this kind of support to families and children in distress. Evidence of this emerges from several reviews of the literature concerning the experience of families and children in hospitals and the benefits of volunteers’ support. Worldwide, several voluntary organisations offer assistance to families and children through the implementation of a wide range of services. One example of such organisation is ABIO, Associazione per il Bambino in Ospedale, which has expressed its intention to improve and expand its services to fully meet the needs of hospitalised families and children. To carry out this project, interviews were conducted directly in the hospital environment to gather perceptions of the service offered and insights. Through careful analysis and re-elaboration of the data collected, it was possible to develop a strategic orientation for ABIO Milano, focused on improving the services already offered and expanding others. The final goal is to guarantee welfare and appropriate support to all families and children admitted to the hospital.
Nel contesto delle malattie croniche che affliggono i bambini, le cui conseguenze si manifestano sia a livello psicologico che fisico, diventa fondamentale assicurare non solo cure mediche adeguate, ma anche un sostegno morale ed emotivo durante il periodo di ospedalizzazione. Questo dolore si estende anche alle famiglie del bambino, che affrontano sfide emotive e pratiche nel gestire la malattia e garantire il benessere del proprio figlio e il loro. Il volontariato per bambini in ospedale si presenta come una risorsa preziosa in grado di offrire tale supporto alle famiglie e ai bambini in difficoltà. L'evidenza di ciò emerge da diverse analisi della letteratura riguardanti l'esperienza delle famiglie e dei bambini in ospedale e i benefici che derivano dall'aiuto dei volontari. Nel panorama mondiale, numerose organizzazioni di volontariato offrono assistenza alle famiglie e ai bambini attraverso l'implementazione di una vasta gamma di servizi. Un esempio di queste organizzazioni è ABIO, Associazione per il Bambino in Ospedale, che ha manifestato il desiderio di migliorare e ampliare i propri servizi per rispondere appieno alle esigenze delle famiglie e dei bambini ricoverati. Nell'ambito di questo progetto, sono state condotte interviste direttamente in ambito ospedaliero, al fine di raccogliere percezioni sul servizio offerto e spunti di riflessione. Attraverso un'attenta analisi e una rielaborazione dei dati raccolti, è stato possibile sviluppare un orientamento strategico per ABIO Milano, focalizzato sul miglioramento dei servizi già offerti e sull'ampliamento dell'offerta di altri. L'obiettivo finale è garantire il benessere e il supporto adeguato a tutte le famiglie e ai bambini ricoverati in un contesto ospedaliero.
