This thesis aimed to predict the load-bearing capacity of cold-formed racking components using four different machine learning (ML) algorithms. The study utilized a comprehensive database of 106 tests, encompassing various geometric characteristics and loading conditions. Linear regression, ridge regression, RandomForest, and artificial neural network (ANN) methods were compared to determine their effectiveness in predicting the outcomes and generating synthetic data by using ML (Active Learing). The geometric properties of the cold-formed samples were selected as input parameters for training the ML algorithms, while the maximum horizontal load and bending moment capacities served as the target features. To demonstrate the significance of the dataset, Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis through ABAQUS software was employed, enabling the generation of additional data and augmenting the dataset (data augmentation). Furthermore, the concept of overfitting was investigated, and recommendations were provided to address this issue. Among the ML algorithms tested, ANN, RandomForest and StackingRegression emerged as the most successful in accurately predicting the results of validation tests, achieving an impressive accuracy.

Abstract
Among the ML algorithms tested, ANN, RandomForest and StackingRegression emerged as the most successful in accurately predicting the results of validation tests, achieving an impressive accuracy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
