How landscape could become a powerful tool to tie the historic city center with a portal area in the city of Naples? The city, located in the southern region of Campania, Italy, is the country’s third-largest city and acts as the regional capital. Notably, Naples’ port holds a prominent position as one of Italy’s key hubs for freight and passenger transportation. The dynamic tourism industry and thriving cultural activities play a vital role in driving the economic growth of the city, contributing significantly to its financial prosperity. However, similar to other portal cities, Naples confronts the gradual degradation of coastal lands occupied by former warehouses, which not only contaminate the soil but also remain disused by the citizens. These lands called Wastescapes characterized by their enclosed nature, encompassed by physical barriers such as walls, creating obstacles for individuals to experience the surrounding urban fabric. These spaces have been previously used for industrial purposes, transportation infrastructure, and other activities that have become obsolete or relocated over time. Historically, the central-eastern region extending from Vigliena to Molosiglio in Naples has been marked by concentrated industrial and port activities. This area has acted as an essential barrier, physically and metaphorically, separating the city from its coastal surroundings. The project aims to re-connect the urban character with the port by establishing a new experimental district on the post-industrial grounds of Naples. Integrative approach is used as a main tool to overcome the existing infrastructure barriers as well as to embrace the city green system and water management. The project offers a new vision of the Ex-Feltrinelli area revealing the lost underground water sources and provoking a new way of life – always connected to the nature. The new identity of the place is built on a smooth immersion of three main characters: City, Landscape, Infrastructure.

Abstract
The new identity of the place is built on a smooth immersion of three main characters: City, Landscape, Infrastructure.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
