This study explores new approaches to the designer's identity narrative by comparing some of the key assumptions underlying the constructivist didactic paradigm with identity-construction and more-than-human-centred design theories. It aims to stimulate reflection regarding the subject-object (i.e., designer-designed) relationship and the contemporary designer's role, thus exposing the individual to a more-than-human-centric perspective and promoting sustainable practices. It will be argued that the widely established human-centred approach fosters an anthropocentric perspective that fails to promote adequate diversity and inclusiveness in design practices, as well as limiting the designer's self-identification. In this regard, the importance of creating new design approaches that support mutualistic relationships with the surrounding context will be emphasised; the self-narrative will be presented as a possible process of creating new cognitive frames. A prototype of a short activity will be proposed based on the theoretical foundations of instructional design and storytelling techniques. Through exercises of self-narration in relation to non-human entities, the activity aims to raise the participant's awareness on the issues presented and to offer a moment of personal reflection helpful in constructing one's personal and/or professional identity.

Abstract
Through exercises of self-narration in relation to non-human entities, the activity aims to raise the participant's awareness on the issues presented and to offer a moment of personal reflection helpful in constructing one's personal and/or professional identity.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
