"Breaking the Bubble: Using Design to Wake Up the World to Animal Cruelty & Suffering" explores the profound issue of animal suffering as a result of humans’ choices and the lack of concern for it in society. It also delves into the underlying reasons why people often choose to ignore or remain oblivious to animal suffering. This thesis delves into various aspects of animal rights, ethics, and philosophy, shedding light on the theory of carnism and human actions. The study investigates the pervasive animal suffering in industries such as food production, clothing manufacturing, laboratory testing (including cosmetics), and entertainment (such as circuses, horse racing, and hunting). This thesis makes a visual communication project as a design way to address these issues effectively. Using design thinking and semiotics, this thesis explores the steps and processes involved in creating effective design solutions to raise awareness about the mentioned issues by knowing better the roots of signs and visual communication. The thesis explores the role of the designer as a translator and examines the power dynamics involved in transmitting knowledge and designing solutions that aim to promote social change. Recognizing the power of effective design in bridging language barriers and instigating change in human behaviour, this thesis explores the psychology of design and its influence on decision-making processes. Visual language emerges as a crucial tool for interpretation and translation, employing semiotics as a science of transformations and utilising design thinking techniques, particularly abduction, to enhance communication. Furthermore, the study introduces the concept of infopoetry, a fusion of information and poetry, as a compelling approach to visual communication. It highlights the importance of emotions and metaphors in engaging viewers and conveying powerful messages. Detailed examples of infopoetry are provided, illustrating the potential impact of this innovative method. Through an interdisciplinary approach encompassing animal rights, design psychology, semiotics, and infopoetry, this thesis aims to raise awareness about animal cruelty and suffering, prompting a change in human behaviour towards more compassionate and ethical choices. By breaking the bubble of ignorance and indifference, this research endeavours to inspire individuals to become active advocates for animal welfare, leading to a more compassionate society overall. Ultimately, this thesis aims to inspire designers to take a more active role in promoting social change and contribute to a better understanding of the role of design in addressing social issues with the focus of animal suffering. It will also serve as a valuable resource for anyone interested in animal welfare, ethics, and the use of design to promote positive change as the thesis tells people to think and be responsible about their daly choices, and be aware of the consequences of their choices.

Abstract
It will also serve as a valuable resource for anyone interested in animal welfare, ethics, and the use of design to promote positive change as the thesis tells people to think and be responsible about their daly choices, and be aware of the consequences of their choices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
