Workspaces continuously evolve and change based on the user’s needs and the type of work being done. The need for increasing creativity and collaboration along with more autonomous modes of working has created a shift in the spatialization of workspaces. The 60s saw a shift to Open Office designs since leaders believed the barrier-free spaces would lead to an increase in collaboration. While the move was radical at the time, it felt counterproductive. Studies have shown that face-to-face interactions fell by 70% in firms that transitioned to the open office plan, while electronic interactions increased. This has led us to believe that our assumptions about collaboration and the architecture of the workspace are outdated. We need to understand how creativity works, it is both an individual and collective process. Multiple studies have shown that creativity in the workspace is correlated to the built environment. To promote innovation and creativity it’s necessary to use tools such as flexibility and privacy in the workspace, hence the reorganization of the open-plan office. This would allow the individual and collaborative work to carry on without hindrance to one another. Through in-depth research, this thesis aims to create a framework of spatial characteristics to promote work in creative environments. Creativity is a process of contemplation and collaboration, both of which will be addressed in this process through a series of design drivers such as flexibility & privacy applied through layout and furniture. In turn, this should allow optimum creative collaboration in the Phygital work hub.

Abstract
In turn, this should allow optimum creative collaboration in the Phygital work hub.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
