Biblioteca comunale di Lecco: progetto di conservazione, miglioramento e sistemazione dell'area esterna per la fruizione pubblica

The location of the library “U. Pozzoli” in the historic center of the city of Lecco represents an element of great relevance and the historical importance of the library itself, which is the reason that inspired the choice of this project as a degree thesis. The main objective was to identify and implement strategies that allow a historic library to meet the requires of current and future users, while respecting the historic building. The study began with an analysis of the historical evolution of libraries as institutions, and then moved on to understanding the possible scenarios and trends that will characterize libraries in the near future. In this sense, in-depth studies and surveys have been conducted on users, considered as the main "actors" of the project of the library of the future. In the light of the knowledge initially acquired, the current state of the library was elaborated, and subsequently the planning phase was tackled. This phase made it possible to understand the importance of multiple variables and to undertake various reflections in the design of a public building such as a library. In addition to the conservation intervention of the historical library, a contemporary project has been developed which respects the historical stratification of the building, but at the same time integrates and contributes to the general improvement of the library. Finally, the intervention enhances, "sews" and eliminates accessibility constraints to the area, through the creation of a pedestrian connection; enhancement of Vallo delle Mura and the redevelopment of the amphitheater, as well as the creation of leisure and entertainment areas.

La localizzazione della biblioteca “U. Pozzoli” nel centro storico della città di Lecco rappresenta un elemento di grande rilevanza e l'importanza storica della biblioteca stessa, motivo che ha ispirato la scelta di questo progetto come tesi di laurea. L'obiettivo principale è stato quello di individuare e attuare strategie che consentano ad una biblioteca storica di soddisfare le esigenze degli utenti attuali e futuri, rispettando l’edificio storico. Lo studio ha preso avvio dall'analisi dell'evoluzione storica della biblioteca come istituzioni, per poi passare alla comprensione dei possibili scenari e tendenze che caratterizzeranno le biblioteche nel futuro prossimo. In tal senso, sono stati condotti approfonditi studi e questionari sugli utenti, considerati come gli "attori" principali del progetto di biblioteca del futuro. Alla luce delle conoscenze acquisite inizialmente, è stato elaborato lo stato attuale della biblioteca, e successivamente è stata affrontata la fase progettuale. Questa fase ha permesso di comprendere l'importanza di molteplici variabili e di intraprendere diverse riflessioni nella progettazione di un edificio pubblico come una biblioteca. Oltre all'intervento di conservazione della biblioteca storica, è stato sviluppato un progetto contemporaneo che rispetta la stratificazione storica dell'edificio esistente, ma allo stesso tempo si integra e contribuisce al miglioramento generale della intera struttura. Infine, l’intervento valorizza, “cuce” ed elimina vincoli di accessibilità all’area, mediante la creazione di un collegamento pedonale; valorizzazione del Vallo delle Mura e la riqualificazione dell’anfiteatro, nonché la creazione delle aree di svago e intrattenimento.
