Prototyping design

Many times within a designer’s career will we produce and define prototypes of many diverse ways, shapes, forms and functionalities. Even more, different market and study areas have different definitions and ideas of its prototypes, how and why does a prototype differ from a product? With this investigative thesis I hope to elucidate the thought behind prototyping in a multidisciplinary way. Starting from the philosophy of scientific representation, I propose a new lens to understand how prototyping and designing are one in the same tools we have to build objects that contribute to all our lives.

Molte volte nella carriera di un designer produciamo e definiamo prototipi di modi, forme e funzionalità diverse. Inoltre, mercati e aree di studio diversi hanno definizioni e idee diverse dei loro prototipi: come e perché un prototipo differisce da un prodotto? Con questa tesi investigativa spero di chiarire il pensiero che sta dietro alla prototipazione in modo multidisciplinare. Partendo dalla filosofia della rappresentazione scientifica, propongo una nuova lente per comprendere come la prototipazione e la progettazione siano las stessa cosa, essendo strumenti che abbiamo per costruire oggetti che contribuiscono alla nostra vita.
