This thesis addresses a pressing issue in Barrancabermeja, Colombia, where a disconcerting trend has emerged, leading numerous young individuals aged 13 to 21 to discontinue their education due to financial constraints. This trend not only hampers their personal growth but also raises concerns about their vulnerability to criminal activities, substance abuse, and violence. To combat these challenges, this research proposes the establishment of a Social and Productive Development Center aimed at revitalizing the educational and socioeconomic prospects of this marginalized youth population. The primary objective of this study is to design and implement a comprehensive intervention strategy that not only re-engages the disengaged youth but also safeguards their future by providing alternatives to criminality and unemployment. Through a multi-faceted approach, the proposed center aims to enhance the participants’ skills, foster cultural and educational growth, and strengthen their integration into the local economy. The study’s methodology includes a thorough analysis of the socioeconomic landscape, a review of successful models in similar contexts, and a detailed architectural and programmatic proposal for the development center. The specific goals encompass the creation of technical laboratories aligned with the city’s productive sectors, the establishment of cultural classrooms and educational spaces, the formation of a youth organization to prevent criminal involvement and reduce unemployment, targeted vocational training, and the provision of sports and educational facilities. The study hypothesizes that the integration of these elements within a centralized hub will not only mitigate the prevalent challenges faced by the disengaged youth but also contribute to the overall social and economic development of Barrancabermeja. By addressing the multifaceted nature of the problem and proposing a comprehensive solution, this thesis seeks to make a significant contribution to the existing discourse on youth education, employment, and social well-being in Barrancabermeja. Through this endeavor, it is hoped that the city can move closer to providing equal opportunities for its youth and nurturing a more resilient and vibrant community.
