Athens, the capital city of Greece, has a rich cultural heritage that dates back to ancient times. The city is famous for its magnificent monuments, including the Acropolis, the Areopagus, the Pnyx, and the Odeon of Pericles. These sites represent a significant part of the world's cultural heritage, and their restoration and redevelopment programs are critical for preserving their historical significance. This thesis explores the restoration and redevelopment programs for these four distinct parts of Athens' archaeological park, highlighting the challenges faced during the design process to keep the places as original as possible while fitting them into the modern context. The Acropolis, in particular, holds immense importance in the history of human civilization and has been a symbol of Western culture for centuries. The research analyses the restoration projects undertaken in the Acropolis, the Areopagus, the Pnyx, and the Odeon of Pericles, discussing the architectural design, materials used, and conservation techniques employed to retain the original character of these sites. The thesis also examines the challenges faced during the restoration process, including socio-political pressures, funding issues, and balancing the need for modern facilities while preserving the historical integrity of the sites. Overall, this thesis contributes to the ongoing discussion on the restoration and redevelopment of archaeological sites and provides insights into the design process for preserving historical monuments while integrating them into the contemporary urban fabric.

Abstract
Overall, this thesis contributes to the ongoing discussion on the restoration and redevelopment of archaeological sites and provides insights into the design process for preserving historical monuments while integrating them into the contemporary urban fabric.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
