Il castello di Melegnano: la storia e l'architettura

The preliminary step for a restoration and conservation project is undoubtedly the historical knowledge of the property. The Castle of Melegnano, with its history and architecture, becomes the subject of analysis of this thesis. Tracing the history of past centuries, analyzing documents preserved in the archives, observing its walls has come to an in-depth historical-architectural framework that can be useful for future choices of intervention. The structure of the thesis follows an order of interpretation of events and transformations by framing as a first step the Castle and the city in a broader historical-geographical context, linked to the city of Milan and the Lombard territory. To then tell all the transformations and interventions that the good has undergone during the succession of the different properties, which have donated not only the image today but also its value, mainly through the study of documents received to us. Finally, what the stone today tells us by providing a description of the state of affairs of each of its parts, and the attempt to identify the various stages of construction. In anticipation of a conservation project, there were reflections on what architectural restoration means, and the aspects to be taken into account in particular for the Castle of Melegnano.

Il passo preliminare per un progetto di restauro e conservazione è indubbiamente la conoscenza storica del bene. Il Castello di Melegnano, con la sua storia e architettura, diventa oggetto di analisi di questa tesi. Ripercorrendo la storia dei secoli passati, analizzando documenti conservati negli archivi e osservando le sue mura si è giunti a un approfondito quadro storico-architettonico che possa essere utile per le scelte future di intervento. La struttura della tesi segue un ordine di lettura degli eventi e delle trasformazioni inquadrando come primo passo il Castello e la città in un contesto storico-geografico più ampio, legato alla città di Milano e al territorio lombardo. Per poi raccontare tutte le trasformazioni e interventi che il bene ha subìto durante il succedersi delle diverse proprietà, che hanno donato non solamente l’immagine odierna ma anche il suo valore, principalemente attraverso sullo studio di documenti a noi pervenuti. Infine, ciò che la pietra oggi ci racconta fornendo una descrizione dello stato di fatto di ogni sua parte, con il tentativo di individuare il processo e le varie fasi costruttive. In previsione di un progetto di conservazione, non sono mancate riflessioni su quello che è il restauro architettonico, e gli aspetti da tenere in considerazione in particolare per il Castello di Melegnano.
