As life expectancy continues to rise, healthcare assistance for elderly people becomes increasingly necessary. The complexity of their state of health requires specific care approaches: information technologies can support elderly health care. In particular, through technology, is possible to monitor their behaviour, especially the activities of daily living, and from these, potential changes that can be indicators of health issues can be understood. In fact, the onset of diseases affects the activities of daily living; however, such changes can be slow and take a long time before being clearly observed. Early identifying long-term 'behavioural drifts' is essential to prevent health decline. However, data collection and analysis of human behaviour are challenging and time-consuming processes. A potential solution is to create digital twins of the individuals, for quicker data collection and analysis. The Assistive Technology Group (ATG) at Politecnico di Milano has developed a novel simulator for the generation of human behaviour, cognitive decay and behavioural drifts due to ageing or disease onset. The problem addressed in this thesis is the increasing demand for healthcare assistance due to the growing average age of the population. The current state of the art is characterized by technologies that only analyze individuals' basic physiological needs. The innovative aspect of this work is the use of a "digital twin" of the individual to generate behavioural data more efficiently than traditional methods, modelling not only physiological needs but also their social aspects, isolation, creativity, and spirituality. The results obtained include a better understanding of the behavioural characteristics of the elderly and the possibility of early intervention in the prevention of cognitive decline and general health deterioration.

Abstract
The results obtained include a better understanding of the behavioural characteristics of the elderly and the possibility of early intervention in the prevention of cognitive decline and general health deterioration.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
