During the last century, many statistical analyses have been carried out on the population of our planet, but mostly these figures refer to the currently living population, and the common statement of most of them reflects the growing population of mankind all over the world. Architects and urban planners have tried to overcome this problem by developing new ideas to address the lack of space in our built environment. Right now, after almost 63 years since Tange’s masterplan for Tokyo, expansion towards the bay has happened to be not only one of the solutions for this city, but the only possible solution. During the past 50 years 5 artificial islands have been constructed inside Tokyo Bay as a part of Tokyo prefecture, other prefectures near the bay have done the same thing. If the growth of the city is towards the bay and if this process of growth is achieved by adding more and more islands inside the bay then a new question should be raised, how an island can be perceived? Does it necessarily refer to the typical process of land reclamation? Is it possible to re-generate what Tange thought to be the solution to overpopulation in Tokyo and adapt it for the current crisis? Tokyo By The Bay is an experimental project that first tries to realize the options available at the time for perceiving the direction and intentions of growth inside the city and second, aims to solve the subsequents of this growth.

Abstract
Tokyo By The Bay is an experimental project that first tries to realize the options available at the time for perceiving the direction and intentions of growth inside the city and second, aims to solve the subsequents of this growth.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
