This thesis presents a comprehensive numerical experiment designed to enhance our understanding of nozzle flow within the VKI Longshot gun tunnel. In an effort to uncover the origins of an unexpectedly lower free-stream Mach number, different test gases, apart from the conventional nitrogen, are considered. The study employs a quasi-1D model of the compression process and 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyze the influence of gas models and hypersonic phenomena on measurements performed in the test section. The obtained results not only validate the flow characterization rebuilding procedure but also underscore the need for improvements. Furthermore, the theisis outlines suggestions for future experiments aimed at drawing definitive conclusions.

Abstract
Furthermore, the theisis outlines suggestions for future experiments aimed at drawing definitive conclusions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
