The objective of this thesis work is to empirically study the role of Business Intelligence (BI) in facilitating companies' decision-making and enhancing their overall efficiency in strategic planning. In the current data-driven world the proper planning is fundamental for informed decision-making, which in turn enhances the corporate effectiveness. The significance of the connection between BI and Corporate Performance Management (CPM) is underlined, as CPM encompasses a range of processes aimed at optimizing business performance, while BI provides the technological support. While many companies hold on to traditional practices, such as planning via Microsoft Excel, this thesis work discusses the crucial role of BI tools in creation of diverse BI and CPM applications, which have shown in the past to speed up planning and ensuring a seamless workflow. This is empirically achieved throughout this thesis work by means of the practical application of a specific BI tool, namely Board, in two multinational companies operating in luxury fashion industry. In the empirical case two distinct applications developed within Board are presented, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and Integrated Business Planning (IBP), which support the integration between different departments inside a company that is crucial for the alignment of strategic business decisions. In the literature review I present what is crucial for effective decision making while in the empirical case I show how features available in Board contribute to company’s decision-making. Though the empirical results of this study are limited to one specific BI tool and to two specific companies operating in a peculiar industry, the results of this thesis work on the role that BI tool have in changing the decision-making process of companies should push future studies to pursue a more in-depth exploration of how integrated planning processes can transform the way an organization operates, aligning its functions to work harmoniously and efficiently toward common goals.

Abstract
The objective of this thesis work is to empirically study the role of Business Intelligence (BI) in facilitating companies' decision-making and enhancing their overall efficiency in strategic planning. In the current data-driven world the proper planning is fundamental for informed decision-making, which in turn enhances the corporate effectiveness. The significance of the connection between BI and Corporate Performance Management (CPM) is underlined, as CPM encompasses a range of processes aimed at optimizing business performance, while BI provides the technological support.
