The historical center of São Carlos plays a vital role in preserving the city’s cultural heritage and serves as a key to comprehending the historical occupation of the Brazilian countryside. However, the increasing desolation of this area presents a significant challenge to its vitality. The rising number of vacant lots, underutilized or abandoned structures, disconnected architectural components, and the subsequent depreciation of historical elements all contribute to this predicament. In order to tackle these issues and contribute to the preservation of the city’s memory, history and enhancement, this work proposes an innovative approach to urban spatial utilization, one that distinguishes itself from traditional methods of revitalizing Brazilian historic centers. The focal point of this intervention is the project within the inner city blocks. This initiative establishes connections, reintegrates, and reclaims underused spaces within the heart of São Carlos, resulting in more united and inclusive locales. The proposal aims to establish a permeable, accessible, and socially engaging environment that encourages pedestrian movement and a variety of activities across three blocks. It harmoniously combines diverse functions, including university research and outreach, housing for postgraduate students, a kindergarten, and a collaborative workspace, to bridge São Carlos’ technological and historical potential. The project aspires to transcend the rigid structure of the city’s urban layout by crafting a fluid space within the inner blocks, while also appreciating the region’s topographical features through a pathway that interconnects urban elements from different temporalities.

Abstract
The project aspires to transcend the rigid structure of the city’s urban layout by crafting a fluid space within the inner blocks, while also appreciating the region’s topographical features through a pathway that interconnects urban elements from different temporalities.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
