Migration support. Enhancing the visa application journey : a comprehensive application for migrant support

One of the main barriers that migrants face during the first stages of their journey, is the visa application process. Visa application processes entail the gathering of documents that depending on the country of origin, can take several months, a relatively high cost and an extensive check list of procedures in order to gather such documentation. Research has shown that migration is driven by a wide range of options and unfortunately, the disparity between the ‘global south’ and the developed countries has put the latter in a desirable position where rights, freedom and financial security promise a better life for those who have not the birthright of the citizenship of any of those countries. Finding through desk and primary research with migrants, what are the barriers that migrants face when trying to migrate legally to another country, showed that more than the lack of information, the underlying problem is the vast amount of information that is not reliable and up-to-date, generating confusion and information overwhelm when it comes to structuring the visa application dossier. This project proposed a software as a service (phone/web application) intended to gather information regarding each step of a migrants journey to get the support document for their visa appllication and cross check it with information provided by a potential migrant. As a result, the user(s) get a roadmap designed to guide them in the most time-accurate basis on how to obtain the documentation, where, how to pay for it and how to put their dossier in order so the probability of delay and rejection, thus, the anxiety and worry, get reduced.

Uno dei principali ostacoli che i migranti affrontano durante le prime fasi del loro viaggio è il processo di richiesta del visto. I processi di richiesta del visto comportano la raccolta di documenti che, a seconda del paese di origine, possono richiedere diversi mesi, un costo relativamente elevato e un'ampia lista di procedure da seguire per ottenere tali documenti. Le ricerche hanno dimostrato che la migrazione è guidata da una vasta gamma di opzioni e, sfortunatamente, la disparità tra il "Sud globale" e i paesi sviluppati ha posizionato questi ultimi in una posizione desiderabile, dove diritti, libertà e sicurezza finanziaria promettono una vita migliore per coloro che non hanno il diritto di nascita della cittadinanza di tali paesi. La ricerca svolta attraverso ricerche documentali e interviste con i migranti ha rivelato che, oltre alla mancanza di informazioni, il problema sottostante è la grande quantità di informazioni non affidabili e non aggiornate, che genera confusione e sovraccarico di informazioni quando si tratta di organizzare il fascicolo di richiesta del visto. Questo progetto propone un software come servizio (applicazione telefonica/web) inteso a raccogliere informazioni riguardanti ogni fase del viaggio del migrante per ottenere il documento di supporto per la richiesta del visto e verificare tali informazioni tramite i dati forniti dal potenziale migrante. Come risultato, l'utente (o gli utenti) ottengono una guida strutturata per ottenere la documentazione nel modo più accurato possibile in termini di tempistiche, indicazioni su dove ottenere i documenti, come pagarli e come organizzare il proprio fascicolo al fine di ridurre la probabilità di ritardi e respingimenti, e quindi l'ansia e le preoccupazioni.
