NOVILUNIUM - Villa Ollandini: da avanzo a bene comune attraverso il riuso

The thesis paper proposes a personal key reading on one of the most urgent issues of the 21st century: the abandonment of buildings and the recovery and regeneration of the abandoned heritage in Italy and in particular in the Val di Magra. Italy reflects in its ruins what has been its history, its experiences, its events; the ruins that cover the entire peninsula tell, as the many monuments and buildings well preserved, the story of a people, in many cases of the true people who built Italy. Moreover, the place of abandonment has always had the ability to attract and fascinate the designer. Starting from a survey on the phenomena of abandonment and decommissioning in Italy which highlights the aspects of vastness and variety, the thesis will focus on the theme of abandonment in the Val di Magra, the valley at the end of Liguria di Levante, bordering Tuscany, where I was born and raised. In the Val di Magra, it seems that the abandonment is at home, and the inhabitants of the valley, in the first person, live it as a normal fact, as if those ruins were part of their city. Among the countryside above all, but often also in the city center, it is not unusual to come across some abbey ruins. After addressing the theme of abandonment in the Val di Magra, the research will focus in my city, Sarzana, a town of just over twenty thousand inhabitants in the province of La Spezia, where the theme of abandonment and abandoned buildings are a daily theme and that for years the citizens of the city live. This category also includes Villa Ollandini, a historic villa with adjoining park that for years has been abandoned in the municipality. The final aim of this thesis, in addition to the analysis of the theme of building abandonment, will be the drafting of a project proposal for the redevelopment of the villa and the adjoining park in all its phases, according to the citizens’ requests and their wishes for a building that until twenty years ago was part of their daily lives.

L’elaborato di tesi, propone una personale chiave di lettura su uno dei temi più urgenti del XXI secolo: l’abbandono edilizio ed il recupero e la rigenerazione del patrimonio dismesso in Italia e in particolare nella Val di Magra. L’Italia rispecchia nei suoi ruderi quella che è stata la sua storia, i suoi vissuti, le sue vicende; le rovine che ricoprono l’intera penisola raccontano, come i molti monumenti e gli edifici ben conservati, la storia di un popolo, in molti casi del vero popolo che ha costruito l’Italia. Inoltre, il luogo dell’abbandono ha da sempre la capacità di attrarre e affascinare il progettista. Partendo da un’indagine sui fenomeni dell’abbandono e della dismissione in Italia che evidenzia gli aspetti di vastità e varietà, la tesi si concentrerà sul tema dell’abbandono nella Val di Magra, la vallata posta all’estremità della Liguria di Levante, a confine con la Toscana, dove sono nata e cresciuta. Nella Val di Magra, sembra che l’abbandono sia di casa, e gli abitanti della vallata, in prima persona, lo vivono come un fatto normale, come se quelle rovine facessero parte della loro città. Fra le campagne soprattutto, ma spesso anche in pieno centro cittadino, non è insolito imbattersi in qualche rudere abbanonato. Dopo aver affrontato il tema dell’abbandono nella Val di Magra, la ricerca si concentrerà nella mia città, Sarzana, una cittadina di poco più di ventimila abitanti in provincia di La Spezia, dove il tema dell’abbandono e gli edifici abbandonati sono un tema quotidiano e che da anni i cittadini vivono. E’ in questa categoria che rientra Villa Ollandini, una storica villa con parco annesso che da anni è in stato di abbandono nel comune. Scopo finale di questa tesi, oltre all’analisi del tema dell’abbandono edilizio, sarà la stesura di una proposta di progetto per la riqualificazione e il riuso della villa e del parco annesso in tutte le sue fasi, secondo le richieste dei cittadini e i loro desideri per un’edificio che fino a vent’anni fa faceva parte della loro quotidianità.
