Ver para saber : il nuovo museo diffuso per il Panoramico di Monsanto

This work stems from the desire to give lustre to a semi-abandoned building whose history has inevitably been intertwined with some of the most important events in Lisbon's recent history. The Panoramic of Monsanto, is a modernist architectural object of great expressive force and its characteristics, both structural and inherent to the context in which it is located, are and have been at the same time the strengths and weaknesses of this artefact. In fact, the building is located within the Monsanto Forest Park, better known as the "green lung of the city", which extends for almost 1000 hectares. This aspect, together with its dominant position on the landscape, make the building like a castle wandering in the forest which, although it rises above the city, allowing a complete 360 degree view of it, remains isolated from it. This is due to a series of structural, historical, maintenance and usage issues that have been analysed in this research and which the proposed project attempts to resolve while maintaining the intrinsic nature of the site. The solution adopted for the case study is the diffuse museum. This approach makes it possible to extend the building's perimeter of influence to the park and consequently to the city, so that the two elements are no longer separate realities. The design and exhibition programme starts from one objective: that of enhancing the building's natural belvedere characteristic. Its position and the large openings already present in the original architecture make the Panoramic a true 'living encyclopaedia of Lisbon'. Miradouro among a thousand miradouries, the Panoramic observes the city and its monuments, and among them chooses to narrate some of the most historically emblematic ones, so that a narrative relationship is woven between them and the building. The narrative and architectural strategy includes the inclusion of various 'satellites' in the vicinity of the building, intermediate points between the city's landmark and the Panoramic. At the architectural level, 3 levels of relationship have been adopted between the original object and the new additions, summarised through 3 actions SEPARATE, INCORPORATE, INSERT. The completed work provided an architectural reworking of the building whose current use detracts from its actual potential. Just as the building's decay was caused by the actions of man and the environment, in the same way it is modern man who is now responsible for bringing the past to light so that it will not be forgotten again and can become the protagonist of the city's new history.

Questo lavoro nasce dalla volontà di dare lustro a un edificio semi abbandonato la cui storia si è inevitabilmente intrecciata ad alcuni dei più importanti eventi della storia recente di Lisbona. Il Panorâmico di Monsanto, è un oggetto architettonico modernista di grande forza espressiva e le sue caratteristiche, sia strutturali che inerenti al contesto nel quale si trova, sono e sono stati allo stesso tempo punti di forza e di debolezza di questo manufatto. L’edificio, infatti, si trova all’interno del Parco Forestale di Monsanto meglio noto come “polmone verde della città”, che si estende per quasi 1000 ettari. Questo aspetto assieme alla sua posizione dominante sul paesaggio, rendono l’edificio al pari di un castello errante nella foresta che, sebbene si erga sulla città consentendo una vista completa di quest’ultima a 360 gradi, rimane rispetto ad essa isolato. Ciò è dovuto a una serie di problematiche strutturali, storiche, di manutenzione e uso che sono state analizzate in questa ricerca e che il progetto proposto prova a risolvere mantenendo comunque intatta la natura intrinseca del luogo. La soluzione adottata per il caso studio è il museo diffuso. Tale approccio consente di ampliare il perimetro di influenza dell’edificio al parco e conseguentemente alla città, per far sì che i due elementi non siano più realtà separate. Il programma progettuale ed espositivo parte da un obiettivo: quello di esaltare la naturale caratteristica di belvedere dell’edificio. La sua posizione e le ampie aperture già presenti nell’architettura originaria fanno del Panoramico una vera e propria “enciclopedia vivente di Lisbona”. Miradouro tra mille miradouri, il Panorâmico osserva la città e i suoi monumenti e tra essi sceglie di raccontare, di quelli visibili, alcuni dei più storicamente emblematici, per far sì che venga tessuta una relazione narrativa tra questi e l’edificio. La narrazione e la strategia architettonica prevede l’inserimento nelle prossimità dell’edificio di vari “satelliti”, punti intermedi tra il landmark della città e il Panorâmico. A livello architettonico, sono stati adottati 3 livelli di relazione tra l’oggetto originario e le nuove aggiunte, sintetizzate attraverso 3 azioni: SEPARARE, INGLOBARE, INSERIRE. Il lavoro portato a compimento ha fornito una rielaborazione architettonica dell’edificio il cui uso attuale ne sminuisce le sue effettive potenzialità. Così come la decadenza dell’edificio è stata causata dall’azione di uomo e ambiente, allo stesso modo è l’uomo moderno che si fa carico oggi di portare alla luce il passato per fa sì che esso non venga nuovamente dimenticato e possa diventare protagonista della nuova storia della città.
