Equivariant neural networks have become a topic of great interest in the deep learning community in recent years. These models have demonstrated superior performance in many deep learning problems, particularly in the field of medical image analysis. In this thesis, we first provide an overview of group and steerable convolutions, which are the necessary operators for constructing equivariant neural networks. Subsequently, we examine the domain of aerial and satellite images, analyzing the main deep learning models commonly used in this context for classification, segmentation, and change detection tasks. After providing a strong motivation that emphasizes the potential advantages of applying equivariant models to aerial and satellite images, we propose equivariant architectures, obtained by replacing conventional convolutions with group and steerable convolutions in existing models. Finally, we evaluate the performance of our models on different datasets of aerial and satellite images, highlighting their strengths and limitations.

Abstract
Finally, we evaluate the performance of our models on different datasets of aerial and satellite images, highlighting their strengths and limitations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
