Abstract
Humans and nature are inextricably linked. Today's cities are surrounded by concrete buildings, and people are struggling to breathe between them. People long for greenery, they long to open their windows and be greeted by the smell of plants. In the process of modern urban design, scholars continue to emphasize the importance of nature to people. In the theory of garden city, Ebenezer Howard proposed to surround human communities with fields and gardens; Yukongjian proposed to return to the field in landscape design. Biophilia was written and popularized by biologist Edward O. Wilson in 1984. Making nature touchable is a focus of the article's discussion. By studying the literature on biophilic design, the author summarizes the approach of biophilic design and combines it with urban placemaking to provide a reference for the design part of subsequent projects. The design project is located in Chongqing, China. Chongqing is an organic city with mountains and water, it is called the "City of Mountains" and the "Fog City", both with nature-related titles. The city's unique elevation provides excellent natural conditions and biodiversity, but the rapid industrialization has left many parts of the city scarred by overdevelopment, and some corners of the city have been reclaimed and forgotten. In this paper, Niujiaotuo Waterfront Park, located along the Yangtze River, is selected for this study. The park is built up from industrial waste and hidden under an elevated bridge, with a lot of vegetation and a lack of design intervention.
