Riprogettare la tradizione : analisi degli approcci alla riprogettazione del materiale culturale locale in Sardegna

The need to observe whether there are any practices or figures capable of renewing and reinvigorating Sardinian handicrafts and traditional products arose from an awareness of the richness contained in the cultural diversity and traditions that Sardinia has handed down to this day, a tangible manifestation of intangible cultural material. The evolution of handicrafts entails a revival of local communities, so it is necessary to investigate in these directions in the hope of picking up positive signs that can be reiterated in the future. The relationship between craftsmanship and design initially seemed to be unable to work, however, the experience of design over the years and cultural policies have led to a re-evaluation of its role in the social sphere and of the strategies that can be undertaken in the pursuit of sustainable development. It is in this wake of renewed interest in the local, culture and tradition that this work is inserted, which aims to research what approaches are nowadays pursued by those working in the craft context in a new and different way from the past. The analysis aims to observe what approaches and areas of redesign are being pursued by craftsmen and designers working in the field of local tradition. To this end, case studies were analysed, extrapolated from the local Sardinian context for the observation and determination of key directions that can be used as strategies both within the Sardinian craft sector and in other contexts. The grouping by common behaviours and the observation of craft practices, based on the catalogue and portfolio of craftsmen and designers, made it possible to define those figures and practices capable of making a significant contribution to the sector. The identified areas of process redesign, iconography and storytelling open up numerous possibilities in the field of design that can allow for the sustainable revaluation and exploitation of local intangible heritage. Among the results that emerged from the research, the figure of the cultural mediator should be noted. The definition of this figure and its contribution in different contexts has been recounted in this paper as positive and necessary for the development of projects that start from crafts and extend to the field of design and new living, in the hope that these practices and figures can contribute to sustainable local and community development.

Dalla consapevolezza della ricchezza contenuta nella diversità culturale e nelle tradizioni che la Sardegna ha tramandato sino ad oggi, manifestazione tangibile del materiale culturale immateriale, è nata la necessità di osservare se esistono delle pratiche o delle figure capaci di rinnovare e rinvigorire l’artigianato sardo e i prodotti della tradizione. L’evoluzione dell’artigianato comporta un risollevamento delle comunità locali per cui occorre indagare verso queste direzioni nella speranza di cogliere dei segnali positivi che possono essere reiterati nel futuro. Il rapporto tra artigianato e design è sembrato inizialmente non potesse funzionare, tuttavia, l’esperienza del design nel corso degli anni e le politiche culturali hanno portato la rivalutazione del suo ruolo in ambito sociale e delle strategie intraprendibili per il perseguimento dello sviluppo sostenibile. In questa scia di rinnovato interesse per il locale, la cultura e la tradizione si inserisce questo lavoro che mira a ricercare quali sono gli approcci che al giorno d’oggi sono perseguiti da chi lavora nel contesto artigianale in maniera nuova e diversa dal passato. L’analisi mira a osservare quali sono gli approcci e le aree di riprogettazione dove artigiani e progettisti lavorano nel campo della tradizione locale. A questo fine sono stati analizzati dei casi studio, estrapolati dal contesto locale sardo per l’osservazione e la determinazione di direzioni chiave che possano essere adoperate come strategie sia all’interno dell’artigianato sardo che in altri contesti. Il raggruppamento per comportamenti comuni e l’osservazione delle pratiche artigianali, basate sul catalogo e il portfolio degli artigiani e dei progettisti, hanno permesso di definire quelle figure e quelle pratiche capaci di dare un apporto significativo al settore. Le aree individuate della riprogettazione di processo, dell’iconografia e della narrazione aprono numerose possibilità nel campo della progettazione che possono consentire di rivalutare e sfruttare sostenibilmente il patrimonio immateriale locale. Tra i risultati emersi dalla ricerca occorre far notare la figura del mediatore culturale. La definizione di questa figura e il suo apporto nei differenti contesti è stato raccontato nel presente lavoro come positivo e necessario allo sviluppo di progetti che partono dall’artigianato e si estendono al campo del design e del nuovo abitare, nella speranza che tali pratiche e figure possano contribuire allo sviluppo sostenibile locale e comunitario.
