Abstract
Fiber-reinforced composites (FRC) are gaining popularity in several areas, including aerospace, automotive, and energy. While these "new generation" materials provide substantial advantages in terms of strength and weight, knowing their behavior under diverse environmental circumstances presents new challenges in their use. Specifically, the effects of humidity and temperature on the matrix characteristics and the fiber/matrix interface can have a substantial impact on the durability of FRC components. This thesis investigates the susceptibility of FRC inter-laminar areas and the matrix/fiber interface to changes in relative humidity and temperature. The influence of freeze-thaw cycles on the material's characteristics owing to the expansion of retained moisture within a porous composite material will also be investigated. Experimental methods, such as heat analysis, X-Ray tomography, and mechanical testing, will be used to evaluate the material's reaction to changing environmental circumstances. This research will help to a greater knowledge of the behavior of FRC under various environmental circumstances, which is essential for the design and maintenance of FRC components. In addition, the outcomes will be useful for constructing prediction models to evaluate the long-term performance of FRC structures in a variety of applications.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
