Today, Online Manufacturing Platforms (OMP) are spreading in the market, changing the structure of manufacturing supply chains. Playing the role of intermediates in buyer-supplier relationships, they offer to customers a fast, reliable and flexible supply of manufactured parts through a wide and competitive suppliers network. Uploading part’s CAD and specifying its requirements, the customer instantly receives the final price and delivery date from the platform’s algorithm, whose Web Interface allows the buyer to autonomously complete the order. Despite the rapid diffusion of existing platforms, a deep literature review highlighted a lack of information and case studies, leading to some research gaps in this field. For this reason, this work aims at investigating and deeply understanding Online Manufacturing Platform’s working principle: first of all, a detailed overview of existing platforms is given, by analyzing what they offer to the market and how their websites work. Then a methodology is proposed to define a strategy through which platforms’ instant quoting algorithms are tested: taking as reference a proposed technological approach for cost estimation of Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machined parts, testing is realized following technological criteria that predict the impact of some input variables on the final part’s cost. In this way, by comparing the platform’s costs with the expected behavior predicted by the technological approach, the platform’s instant quoting is analyzed, understanding which platforms consider more technological knowledge during cost computation. Finally, collecting all the available information about existing platforms, Analytic Hierarchy Process is implemented to properly guide the customer in the selection of the platform that mostly satisfies his requirements.

Abstract
Finally, collecting all the available information about existing platforms, Analytic Hierarchy Process is implemented to properly guide the customer in the selection of the platform that mostly satisfies his requirements.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
