This thesis delves into the difficulties surrounding the transformation of informal green spaces during the urban renewal process in China. Using Shanghai as a case study, the author identifies the various types and characteristics of informal green spaces in the city, particularly in residential areas, and highlights the challenges faced when transforming them. The author proposes the creation of community gardens to address issues such as participatory retrofit design, sustainable maintenance management, and biodiversity conservation, with the aim of achieving multiple goals for informal green spaces in urban residential areas. Furthermore, the thesis examines two community gardens in Milan and one in Shanghai, with a focus on the international experience of community garden creation and maintenance through field research and interviews. Finally, the author suggests a strategy for informal green space transformation in China, taking into account the social environment and policies, as well as the actual urban situation in Shanghai.
Questa tesi approfondisce le difficoltà legate alla trasformazione degli spazi verdi informali durante il processo di rinnovamento urbano in Cina. Utilizzando Shanghai come caso di studio, l'autore identifica i vari tipi e le caratteristiche degli spazi verdi informali della città, in particolare nelle aree residenziali, e mette in evidenza le sfide affrontate nella loro trasformazione. L'autore propone la creazione di orti comunitari per affrontare questioni come la progettazione partecipata, la gestione sostenibile della manutenzione e la conservazione della biodiversità, con l'obiettivo di raggiungere molteplici obiettivi per gli spazi verdi informali nelle aree residenziali urbane.
