ABSTRACT in today' s world, urban expansion is a major significant challenge for many cities in West Africa, as rapid population growth and migration to urban areas put pressure on resources and infrastructure. The issue of migration in Africa is a complex one that requires a new model of planning practice that moves from a "should" to a "could" mentality. This means that planning should not just focus on what should be done, but also on what could be done to address the issue of migration. To do this, it is important to integrate informal mechanisms into the urban management of African culture. The capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, has experienced rapid population growth in recent years. This has led to the development of new neighborhoods and residential areas, as well as the expansion of commercial and industrial areas. The city's growth has also brought challenges such as lack of basic infrastructure and pressure on the city's resources. The inhabitants of the city, in fact, are expected to increase from around 3 million to around 4,5 million by 2030, causing a significant rise in the demand for food supply and income-generatı ng actıvıtıes. This thesis examines the challenges posed by climate change and urban expansion in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with a focus on the integration of blue, green, and gray infrastructures. By analyzing the existing infrastructure, the study identifies limitations and explores the consequences for the city's development.Based on the research findings, a comprehensive methodology of action is proposed to enhance the city's resilience, address current and future challenges, and improve the urban environment and socio-economic dynamics. The long-term sustainable interventions aim to strengthen key infrastructures and ensure their effectiveness: Shielded Blue lnfrastructure: This component involves implementing floodwater catchment systems along the central barrages of the city to mitigate the effects of increased rainfall. it addresses issues such as runoff, poor maintenance of central barrages, and soil degradation. Productive Green lnfrastructure: The integration of an agroforestry system is crucial to meet the growing demand for food and income-generating activities, considering the projected population increase in Ouagadougou. This green infrastructure provides environmental and socio-economic benefits. Connecting Social lnfrastructure: By introduCing targeted facilities and services, this component focuses on capacity building, commuity engagement, and promoting agroforestry practices. it empowers residents to actively participate in sustainable urban development. Moreover, the proposed project can be expanded to other areas of the city, transforming the existing blue-green infrastructure into a network of respite corridors. This network aims to enhance urban organization, improve the quality of the city, and provide essential ecosystem services, including food supply. in conclusion, this thesis presents a comprehensive approach to promote sustainable urban development in Ouagadougou. By integrating nature-based solutions and strategic implementation of blue, green, and gray infrastructures, the city can enhance its resilience, improve the well-being of its residents, and foster a harmonious coexistence between urban spaces and the natural environment.
ASTRATTO nel mondo di oggi, l'espansione urbana rappresenta una sfida importante e significativa per molte città dell'Africa occidentale, poiché la rapida crescita della popolazione e la migrazione verso le aree urbane mettono sotto pressione le risorse e le infrastrutture. La questione della migrazione in Africa è complessa e richiede un nuovo modello di prassi progettuale che passi da una mentalità del "dovrebbe" a una mentalità del "potrebbe". Ciò significa che la pianificazione non dovrebbe concentrarsi solo su ciò che dovrebbe essere fatto, ma anche su ciò che potrebbe essere fatto per affrontare il problema della migrazione. Per fare questo, è importante integrare meccanismi informali nella gestione urbana dell'Africa cultura. Sulla base dei risultati della ricerca, viene proposta una metodologia d'azione completa per migliorare la resilienza della città, affrontare le sfide attuali e future e migliorare l'ambiente urbano e dinamiche socio-economiche. Gli interventi sostenibili a lungo termine mirano a rafforzare le infrastrutture chiave e a garantirne l'efficacia: Shielded Blue Infrastructure: questa componente prevede l'implementazione di sistemi di captazione delle acque alluvionali lungo gli sbarramenti centrali della città per mitigare gli effetti dell'aumento delle precipitazioni. affronta problemi come il deflusso, la scarsa manutenzione degli sbarramenti centrali e il degrado del suolo. Infrastrutture verdi produttive: l'integrazione di un sistema agroforestale è fondamentale per soddisfare la crescente domanda di cibo e attività generatrici di reddito, considerando l'aumento demografico previsto a Ouagadougou. Questa infrastruttura verde offre vantaggi ambientali e socio-economici. Connettere l'infrastruttura sociale: introducendo strutture e servizi mirati, questa componente si concentra sullo sviluppo delle capacità, sul coinvolgimento della comunità e sulla promozione delle pratiche agroforestali. consente ai residenti di partecipare attivamente allo sviluppo urbano sostenibile. Inoltre, il progetto proposto può essere esteso ad altre aree della città, trasformando l'infrastruttura blu-verde esistente in una rete di corridoi di tregua.
