This thesis explores the evolution of PeekABook, an innovative Abstract storytelling tool designed to address the challenges associated with geographical distance, particularly relevant during the Covid-19 emergency. PeekABook integrates a tangible component and a digital platform to facilitate interaction between distant children and adults, enabling them to actively participate in the narrative. The game is based on traditional bedtime story sessions, enriched with both a digital and tangible component. The experiment at GiocaMi 2023 involved 40 users in 20 sessions, revealing the effectiveness of the system and prompting reflections on usability. The results inspired substantial improvements, culminating in the creation of Storiello, a restructured product addressing four critical areas identified during experimentation. The four identified intervention areas are: the structure of the story and the activity, the child’s agency in interactions, the management of distractions, and the optimization of spatiality and dynamism. Storiello emerges as an enhanced version, structured like a board game, offering greater autonomy to the child, clarity in the activity, and encouraging narrative development. Storiello’s educational approach further expands the positive impact of the original storytelling tool. This thesis contributes to the understanding of dynamics and challenges related to the design of interactive games, providing essential insights for the development of innovative tools, useful not only in family dynamics but also in long-distance caregiving contexts.

Abstract
This thesis contributes to the understanding of dynamics and challenges related to the design of interactive games, providing essential insights for the development of innovative tools, useful not only in family dynamics but also in long-distance caregiving contexts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
