As industries worldwide strive for sustainability and environmental consciousness, the concept of industrial symbiosis has emerged as a promising approach. Industrial symbiosis promotes resource efficiency, waste reduction, and circular economy principles, positioning it as a vital strategy for modern businesses. While previous research has examined the factors influencing companies' adoption of circular economy practices, a gap persists in understanding the practical and contextual factors driving data sharing to facilitate industrial symbiosis among companies across diverse industries. This thesis addresses this gap by comprehensively evaluating the multifaceted influences encouraging companies to share data for the implementation of industrial symbiosis. Unlike previous studies that primarily focused on overarching factors, this research acknowledges the inherent diversity of industries and companies, and how unique circumstances can impact the decision-making process. The methodology for this study involved a literature review on practices to share data within industrial symbiosis and circular economy. In addition, it was developed and applied a questionnaire to industries in Germany and Italy. with the aim of capturing a holistic view of the motivations, challenges, and drivers influencing companies in reality to share data for industrial symbiosis. One of the key contributions of this research lies in its commitment to consider industries and companies across that already have industrial symbiosis practices in different countries. By analyzing the responses of companies in different industries and focusing on specific contextual factors, the study also provides a nuanced analysis applicable across different sectors. This approach will not only offer valuable insights for companies aiming to implement industrial symbiosis but also contribute to the growing body of literature on sustainable business practices. In conclusion, this thesis endeavors to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application in the realm of industrial symbiosis and sharing data. By examining the factors influencing companies' decisions to share data for this purpose, the study aspires to provide actionable insights that address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by different industries.
Mentre le industrie di tutto il mondo si sforzano di perseguire la sostenibilità e la coscienza ambientale, il concetto di simbiosi industriale è emerso come un approccio promettente.
