In today's multicultural world, every day we meet people who speak other languages, profess other religions and have other worldviews. It is a cultural otherness that cannot be ignored. Kapuscinski argues that whenever man encounters another person, he has three options: to wage war against him, to isolate himself or to establish a dialogue. The last option, according to Zingale, makes otherness a possibility. Dialogue, for Jullien, is the crossing of that territory that keeps two positions in relation. For this to happen, argues Sam Richards, it requires an exercise in empathy. To spread the culture of intercultural dialogue, the idea is to design an independent magazine that innovatively deals with this topic, bringing it closer to the reader and away from narratives that only link it to those who are considered different or foreign. After a preliminary analysis of how some similar magazines deal with the concept of dialogue, the first issue of NICE TO MEET YOU was realised. The project aims to create a space for intercultural dialogues, getting to know new people and cultures and opening up to different world views with empathy and kindness. Within its pages, the reader finds stories from various geographical areas and discovers the cultural diversity that characterises human beings. The concept of dialogue is also reflected in the graphic choices, both in the layout of the texts, the overlapping of different communication codes (text, photo and illustration), and the use of a typeface with symbolic shapes. To make the project more effective, a system of artefacts was added to the magazine: in-person events, a card game and a website. The project is considered to have achieved its initial objective: it succeeds in creating an environment of respectful sharing and involving even those who are not close to the subject. We are equally aware that one of its limitations is to be the fruit of individual work. Looking ahead to the next issues, however, the editorial team plans to expand and introduce a “cultural editor” to compensate for some cultural bias.

Abstract
Looking ahead to the next issues, however, the editorial team plans to expand and introduce a “cultural editor” to compensate for some cultural bias.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
