Open innovation is a paradigm that has over the years complemented the internal and closed way of innovation, which characterised companies for the past centuries. This approach has attracted the attention of academics around the world, who have praised its potential and emphasised its benefits. Over the years, however, the high failure rate that this new paradigm brings has emerged and the literature, as well as companies, have called for more research in this field. To date, however, studies in this field are still few and far between. Against this background, this study, by means of an extensive literature review, proposed to catalyse the studies to date into a single issue-tree divided into intra-firm and inter-firm causes of failure. Subsequently, in order to be applicable at the project level, the same failures were rationalised along the temporal phases of Open Innovation according to Braun & Mueller, in a "Stage-Gate" model, which aimed at identifying and thus averting failures stage by stage. Finally, a self-assessment module is proposed to identify the "likelihood of failure" on the three failure axes of "Strategy", "Process" and "Community". Thus, with the aim of validating the goodness of the model, interviews were conducted in order to improve the reliability of the three modules, as well as to capture new insights hitherto absent in the literature.

Abstract
Thus, with the aim of validating the goodness of the model, interviews were conducted in order to improve the reliability of the three modules, as well as to capture new insights hitherto absent in the literature.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
