Purpose, Originality and Value – This thesis broadens academic understanding of social sustainability in the luxury sector to combat modern slavery. It explores synergistic partnerships with suppliers and their role in sustainable practices, focusing on areas not extensively covered in existing literature. Design, Methodology and Approach – Employing a multi-phase research process, the study begins with a literature review to identify gaps in the literature and define the methodology. This is followed by expert interviews aimed at addressing these gaps. The process started with the drafting of research questions, which then shaped the development of the Research Framework. Findings – The two primary outcomes of this thesis are: (1) a comprehensive delineation of the key variables within the process luxury companies engage in to combat modern slavery practices, and (2) an elucidation of the dynamics through which these variables operate, assessing whether they support or counteract the various macro-factors identified. Practical and Managerial Implications – The final outcome is a practical and comprehensive depiction of all the variables pertinent to the transition process towards social sustainability. Preserving the functional nature of these variables is crucial to bolster the fight against the aforementioned unethical practices. Limits and Future Research – In addressing certain aspects, some experts have demonstrated a more constrained perspective, partially attributable to the innovative nature of the subject matter. Furthermore, potential limitations of this research may include a lack of diversity within the expert sample, the limited number of experts consulted, and a potential bias arising from the respondents' employment: four out of five are employed within luxury companies. Nevertheless, it is anticipated that ongoing research may mitigate or fully resolve the gaps identified in this thesis.
