Blockchain implementation in fashion luxury circular economy : a real use case: must had

This thesis studies two critical subjects that are gaining ground in the Fashion Luxury sector: Circular Economy and Blockchain. The growing demand for sustainable solutions is necessary to tackle the massive problem of waste generated by this industry. This demand could be addressed by the adoption of circular models, facilitated by new technological solutions such as Blockchain. Blockchain is therefore emerging as particularly relevant. The main objective of the thesis is to provide a practical case of blockchain implementation, contributing with a concrete approach to research in the existing literature. The thesis presents first a literature review of blockchain benefits in key sectors, including supply chain, Fashion Luxury, and Circular Economy. Subsequently, an analysis highlights real-world initiatives undertaken by Fashion Luxury brands and institutions. Several insights were discovered during these first two theoretical analyses. They were facilitating a better understanding and helping to deeply explore the Must Had use case. Must Had is an Italian startup, which wants to benefit from the implementation of blockchain technology. Must Had's goal is to integrate the blockchain of Spartan Tech, another Italian start-up. An in-depth review of Must Had was necessary to precisely trace their processes, while garments are upcycling, recycling, and reselling in the circular economy projects they manage. The mapping of Must Had's processes led to the creation of different Forms, where key information is recorded. This is enabling the creation of extremely reliable Project Reports in the blockchain. It represents an important innovation for Must Had that constitutes the base for a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The relevance of blockchain in the circular economy is highlighted. Blockchain is addressing key requirements of traceability and reliability of information, a must for Must Had's clients, as acknowledged by two different qualitative surveys held. The thesis certainly provides a positive assessment of blockchain implementation and reveals its impact in the context of Fashion Luxury through an authentic use case.

Questa tesi studia due argomenti critici che si stanno diffondendo nel settore del Fashion Luxury: Economia circolare e Blockchain. La crescente domanda di soluzioni sostenibili è necessaria per affrontare l'enorme problema dei rifiuti generati da questa industria. Questa domanda potrebbe essere affrontata con l'adozione di modelli circolari, facilitati da nuove soluzioni tecnologiche come la Blockchain. La Blockchain sta quindi emergendo come particolarmente rilevante. L'obiettivo principale della tesi è sviluppare un caso pratico di implementazione della blockchain, contribuendo così con un approccio concreto alla ricerca nella letteratura esistente. La tesi presenta innanzitutto una revisione della letteratura sui benefici della blockchain in settori chiave, tra cui la supply chain, il lusso della moda e l'economia circolare. Successivamente, un'analisi mette in luce le iniziative reali intraprese da marchi e istituzioni nel settore del lusso. Nel corso di queste prime due analisi teoriche sono emerse diverse intuizioni. Questi hanno facilitato una migliore comprensione e hanno contribuito ad approfondire il caso d'uso di Must Had. Must Had è una start-up italiana che vuole trarre vantaggio dall'implementazione della tecnologia blockchain. L'obiettivo di Must Had è integrare la blockchain di Spartan Tech, un'altra start-up italiana. Un'analisi approfondita del Must Had è stata necessaria per tracciare con precisione i loro processi, mentre gli indumenti attraversano l’upcycling, riciclo e rivendita nei progetti di economia circolare che gestiscono. La mappatura dei processi di Must Had ha portato alla creazione di diversi Forms in cui vengono registrate le informazioni chiave. Ciò consente di creare Report di Progetto estremamente affidabili nella blockchain. Si tratta di un'innovazione importante per Must Had, che costituisce la base per un prodotto minimo utilizzabile (MVP). È stata evidenziata la rilevanza della blockchain nell'economia circolare. La blockchain risponde ai requisiti chiave di tracciabilità e affidabilità delle informazioni, un must per i clienti di Must Had, come riconosciuto da due diverse indagini qualitative condotte. La tesi fornisce sicuramente una valutazione positiva dell'implementazione della blockchain e rivela il suo impatto nel contesto del Fashion Luxury attraverso un caso d'uso autentico.
