LA CASETTA DEGLI ATTREZZI. Design e sviluppo tecnico di un contenitore e dei relativi attrezzi per uso casalingo.

The issue of repair is becoming more and more important nowadays-we are realizing the need to repair more and throw away less. “It costs less to buy it back” is a phrase we have come to realize is deeply incorrect. Eco-sustainability does not only mean buying cardboard items, but also taking care of what you already have. Caring for objects is a principle that was very much felt in the past; the economic value was such that it created an aura of respect and reverence for what was used. When I speak of the past, I am referring mainly to the period before World War II and the economic and consumerist boom that followed. For too long we have lived in a society of unbridled consumption, where the new and novelty rule the day. Innovation in our lives has contributed to a general improvement in people’s well-being, but with implications that we are still watching. I believe that we can seek a healthier relationship with objects in which we can regain the respect that is often lost. We have delegated all responsibility to objects by blaming them whenever they break for not being durable enough. The realities are many, and society currently shows itself divided into factions playing their own games. Scores of ambinetalists protest on the streets, industries try to increase sales, and those who have no time to think work and buy keeping the well-oiled mechanism running. As a designer, I stand in the middle trying to connect the world of industry to the world of everyday life. In this thesis, I have focused on gestures and simple things that smell of old. I developed a product that aims to bring people back to the beauty of manual gesture and the satisfaction that comes with it. Taking into account a number of factors that I approach to analyze, I have tried to reveal in a modern key the lost beauty of the tools of the past. This thesis aims to understand the relationship between tools, repairs and people in the domestic environment. Then, having identified the current state, a solution to the problems and opportunities identified above will be developed.

Il tema della riparazione sta diventando sempre più importante al giorno d’oggi: stiamo capendo la necessità di riparare di più e buttare via di meno. “costa meno ricomprarlo” è una frase che abbiamo capito essere profondamente scorretta. Ecosostenibilità non significa solo acquistare oggetti di cartone, ma anche prendersi cura di ciò che si ha già. La cura degli oggetti è un principio molto sentito in passato; il valore economico era tale da creare un’aura di rispetto e di riverenza per ciò che veniva usato. Quando parlo di passato mi riferisco soprattutto al periodo precedente la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e al boom economico e consumistico che ne è seguito. Da troppo tempo viviamo in una società di consumo sfrenato, dove il nuovo e la novità la fanno da padrone. L’innovazione nelle nostre vite ha contribuito a un generale miglioramento del benessere delle persone, ma con implicazioni che stiamo ancora osservando. Credo che si possa ricercare un rapporto più sano con gli oggetti in cui ritrovare il rispetto spesso perduto. Abbiamo delegato ogni responsabilità agli oggetti incolpandoli ogni qual volta si rompono di non essere abbastanza resistenti. Le realtà sono molteplici e la società attualmente si mostra divisa in fazioni che fanno i loro giochi. Schiere di ambinetalisti protestano sulle strade, le industrie cercano di aumentare le vendite e chi non ha tempo di pensare lavora e compra facendo girare il meccanismo ben oliato. Come progettista mi colloco nel mezzo cercando di collegare il mondo dell’industria a quello della vita di tutti i giorni. In questa tesi mi sono concentrato sui gesti e sulle cose semplici che profumano di antico. Ho sviluppato un prodotto che vuole riavvicinare le persone alla bellezza del gesto manuale e alla soddisfazione che ne deriva. Tenendo conto di una serie di fattori che mi approccio ad analizzare ho provato a rivelare in chiave moderna la bellezza perduta degli attrezzi del passato. Questa tesi punta a comprendere il rapporto tra strumenti, riparazioni e persone nell’ambiente domestico. Quindi, identificato lo stato attuale, verrà sviluppata una soluzione ai problemi e alle opportunità identificate sopra.
