Estrada Real, a historic route in Brazil, played a crucial role in shaping the socio-political development of the country and once served as a vibrant artery for trade and cultural exchange in Brazil. Its significance can be traced back to the discovery of gold, which sparked an era of prosperity. The legacy of Estrada Real is evident through both material and immaterial traces. The material remnants include the cities, villages, architectural structures, and archaeological sites that line the path, while the immaterial traces encompass the cultural, social, and historical influences that have shaped the region over time. Over the span of two centuries, the cities along Estrada Real underwent various transformations. Some experienced rapid development fuelled by the advent of railways and other economic activities while others remained largely unchanged, keeping the spirit of time, that can be considered a form of obsolescence. Focus of the thesis will be continuing on preserved cities - reminiscent of abstract ruins. Owing to their rich historical value and well-preserved nature, these cities were elevated to the status of a National Monument, in addition to being listed in 1938 by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN). Among these cities, the case of Ouro Preto stands out as a unique example within this context. Once the capital of Minas Gerais, Ouro Preto faced a significant decline towards the end of the 19th century, leading to its near abandonment. But after recognition and process of patrimonialization, there was the development of cultural tourism, breathing new life into the city. What was once on the brink of being forgotten became valued and celebrated. However, the city now grapples with the challenges posed by tourism, limiting the full potential enjoyment of their unique character by the local citizens. Ouro Preto has become synonymous with its picturesque baroque houses, grand churches, and scenes that evoke a bygone era of Brazil. Nonetheless, Ouro Preto is a vibrant city whose vitality extends beyond its heritage and tourism. Its residents express their opinions and concerns, highlighting the need for community spaces and a cultural center that cater to the needs of the local population. These expressions reflect a sentiment that the city should not solely belong to tourists, but also be a place where residents can actively engage with their city, culture, and heritage. Creating such spaces will enable a stronger connection between the community and their surroundings, fostering a sense of ownership, identity, and pride. In response to the citizens’ call for community spaces, the IPHAN has proposed a social-oriented project for the Morro do Quiemada. Furthermore, this site stands as a partial ruin, adding to its neglected state and the need for revitalization. This project, which includes the delineation of the park area, the creation of a park program, and the establishment of an ecomuseum, aims to foster social and cultural relationships. By aligning with the needs of the local population, this initiative seeks to facilitate social development and strengthen the connection between the community and its heritage. This Center can serve as a bridge between the past and the present, amplifying the coalescence of different cultures that characterized Estrada Real. By revitalizing Morro do Quiemada, i seek to address the issue of stagnation and the limited response to new developments in the Estrada Real cities.

Abstract
Estrada Real, a historic route in Brazil, played a crucial role in shaping the socio-political development of the country and once served as a vibrant artery for trade and cultural exchange in Brazil.
