The project explores the potential of resilient landscape design in AlFakiha town in northeast Lebanon. The town is prone to seasonal flooding due to heavy rains, which causes harm to agriculture, biodiversity, settlements, and activities on the nearby Assi River. Away from the defensive solutions of constructing reinforced concrete walls, the project sees that the solution to these floods can be through resilient landscapes, that maintain functionality throughout the year, while tackling the main issue at hand which is the flash flood. This is achieved through a set of clearly defined landscape and architectural design strategies that incorporate topographical conditions, the dynamics of water systems, vegetation, and human activities into a single whole. As Al Fakiha has a unique social system and patterns of living, and as landscape architecture is very contextual, our proposed project aims to define the human practices of the town’s people and preserve these practices in a comprehensive approach. The project is thus a culturally rooted landscape that acts on different levels and scales: Water systems, collective productive landscapes, the social infrastructure, and public spaces. It is a hybrid resilient model that conceives multiple phases according to the spatiotemporal dimension, the water cycle, and the crop rotation seasons.

Abstract
It is a hybrid resilient model that conceives multiple phases according to the spatiotemporal dimension, the water cycle, and the crop rotation seasons.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
