Starting from the last century, sensors have been seen assuming more and more importance in our everyday lives. Furthermore, in recent years the need for a more sustainable and conscious industry brought scientists and developers to adopt new production techniques, such as Additive Manufacturing. In particular, due to its nature, AM has been seen as an incredibly promising solution when it comes to next-generation electro-mechanical devices, especially with the advent of flexible, stretchable, and soft electronics, which are promising technological branches for the healthcare, safety, and robotics fields. Therefore this work aims at proposing, developing, and making a first readout of the electro-mechanical response of a fully inkjet-printed piezoelectric sensor for large deformations applications. A novel combination of materials is here presented. The design consists of a polyimide layer as a substrate, while inkjet printing was used for patterning silver electrodes and a P(VDF-TrFE) active layer in between. The results achieved demonstrate that this novel materials combination is a promising option for the development of piezoelectric sensors when it comes to large-strain applications and high customization needs.

Abstract
The results achieved demonstrate that this novel materials combination is a promising option for the development of piezoelectric sensors when it comes to large-strain applications and high customization needs.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
