This thesis delves into the relationship between culture, sustainability, and product design with the aim of discovering how integrating culture into sustainable product design processes impacts societal and environmental outcomes. A detailed exploration of various sustainable design approaches, as well as two categorizations of culture, quantitative and qualitative, are introduced. The first is represented by the Hofstede's cultural dimensions and reveals how different societies might engage with or resist specific sustainability initiatives based on cultural values. On the other hand, the qualitative categorization, utilizing Descola's ontological typologies, advocates for the inclusion of non-human elements and diverse belief systems. Framing the discussion for the intersection of culture and sustainability, this thesis underlines the significance of empathy, understanding, and inclusivity in design processes to create culturally resonant and effective sustainability initiatives. The framework provided aims to guide designers in the preliminary stages to comprehend the intended user better, resulting in sustainable products that effectively engage with culture, promoting enhanced sustainable practices.

Abstract
The framework provided aims to guide designers in the preliminary stages to comprehend the intended user better, resulting in sustainable products that effectively engage with culture, promoting enhanced sustainable practices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
