Immutabili variazioni : progetto per il nuovo polo sportivo di Siracusa

The thesis develops the theme of the construction of a sports facility as part of a larger landscape redevelopment project of the coastal area of Targia in Syracuse, intended to host the new University Campus of the city, where today there is the industrial area of the Syracuse petrochemical pole. The objective of the project is reclaim this portion of the territory north-west of Syracuse to return it to citizens and development, a plan whose settlement principle finds its origin in a large park that connects the city to the sea, respecting the historical and environmental context in which it is inserted. Within an apparently rigid settlement scheme, defined by the park and a series of axes that cross it perpendicular to the coastline, the important axis of the "Rada di Santa Panagia" is inserted which is kept as a historical memory of the pre-existing petrochemical complex: the Rada is an important variation within the settlement system where the main buildings that make up the Campus such as the Library, the Theatre, the Classrooms and the Residences are located. On the relationship between the axes and this variation develops the project of the Campus Sports Center object of study, consisting of the Sports Hall, the building that contains the Freediving Pool and a Panoramic Tower. The three buildings are connected by a large square that absorbs the variations and overlooking the large park; in turn this, through a series of internal paths, connects the Campus with the underlying residential system making the building scheme homogeneous and defining different places of living and living the city. "Immutable variations" is a project composed of a classroom building that, following the theme of the proposed variation, apparently doubles in the same building and through a large base constitutes its strength and identity, where the structural aspects, technological, plant and environmental contribute to the conscious and careful realization of the architectural idea.

La tesi sviluppa il tema della realizzazione di un impianto sportivo nell’ambito di un più grande progetto di riqualificazione paesaggistica dell’area costiera di Targia a Siracusa, destinato ad ospitare il nuovo Campus Universitario della città, dove oggi si estende la vasta area industrializzata del polo petrolchimico siracusano. L’obiettivo del progetto è quello di bonificare questa porzione di territorio a nord-ovest di Siracusa per riconsegnarla ai cittadini e di sviluppo, un piano il cui principio insediativo trova la sua origine in un grande parco che collega la città al mare, nel rispetto del contesto storico e ambientale in cui si inserisce. All’interno di uno schema insediativo apparentemente rigido, definito dal parco e da una serie di assi che lo attraversano in maniera perpendicolare alla linea di costa, si inserisce l’importante asse della “Rada di Santa Panagia”, che è mantenuta come memoria storica del polo petrolchimico preesistente: la Rada è un’importante variazione all’interno del sistema insediativo dove sono disposti gli edifici principali che costituiscono il Campus come la Biblioteca, il Teatro, le Aule e le Residenze. Sul rapporto tra gli assi e questa variazione si sviluppa il progetto del Polo Sportivo del Campus oggetto di approfondimento, costituito dal Palazzetto per lo Sport, dall’edificio che contiene la Piscina per l’apnea e una Torre Panoramica. I tre edifici sono collegati da una grande piazza che assorbe le variazioni e che si affaccia sul grande parco; a sua volta questo, tramite una serie di percorsi interni, collega il Campus con il sistema residenziale sottostante rendendo omogeneo lo schema edilizio e definendo luoghi diversi dello stare e del vivere la città. “Immutabili variazioni” è un progetto composto da un edificio ad aula che, seguendo il tema della variazione proposta, si sdoppia apparentemente nel medesimo edificio e attraverso un grande basamento ne costituisce la sua forza e identità, dove gli aspetti strutturali, tecnologici, impiantistici e ambientali concorrono alla realizzazione consapevole e attenta dell’idea architettonica.
