Digital transformation has become a worldwide topical issue of major importance in all sectors; nowadays, companies need to adopt this technologies to remain competitive. Despite this, the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry is characterized by having low levels of digitalization in comparison to other industries. For this reason, the main concern for AEC companies today is how to lead digital transformation successfully. This research highlights the significance of this evolution for AEC companies, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while acknowledging the challenges hindering their adoption of digital technologies. This thesis also underscores the necessity for a systematic framework to aid SMEs in transitioning towards digital models. It identified various barriers hindering digitalization and proposes a system-based framework based on enterprise architecture (EA) and graph models aimed at aiding SMEs in assessing their current processes, understanding organizational components, data interdependencies, and selecting tailored digital solutions. This research concludes by assessing the framework through a case study conducted in a Colombian construction SME operating in the Oil and Gas sector, for which were evaluated and optimized the construction planning and design processes by using digital technologies.

Abstract
This research concludes by assessing the framework through a case study conducted in a Colombian construction SME operating in the Oil and Gas sector, for which were evaluated and optimized the construction planning and design processes by using digital technologies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
