Connecting the Land to the Sky This thesis explores the potential redevelopment of flat roofs in the city of Milan, trying to integrate them with the uses and functions present within the existing urban landscape and creating a frame form between the roof level and the ground level that would become the new layer for the redesign of the urban fabric. The research questions of the thesis project are mainly three: 1. What is the potential of the roof area that can be re-designed to accommodate new uses and functions in Milan and to identify the potential locations of the roof networks? 2. How can these roofs be re-designed and re-developed to achieve significant progress towards a new sustainable, socially cohesive, and resilient MILAN? 3. How can the new rooftop network be integrated with the existing urban landscape? The intents of the thesis project are mainly three: 1.The thesis proposes to articulate the existing functions of the roof in compliance to the function of the landscape thus finding a solution to the current problem statement. 2.The thesis has attempted to investigate the possible functions flat roofs could accommodate in relation to large urban scale functions and providing an answer to the congestion in the existing streets and the lack of open spaces within the city. 3. A proposal for a rooftop and ground level toolkit and a complete strategy for the development of multifunctional roofscape.

Collegare la terra al cielo Questa tesi esplora la potenziale riqualificazione delle coperture piane nella città di Milano, cercando di integrarle con gli usi e le funzioni presenti all’interno del paesaggio urbano esistente e creando una forma a cornice tra il livello del tetto e il livello del suolo che diventi il ​​nuovo strato per il ridisegno del tessuto urbano.Le domande di ricerca del progetto di tesi sono principalmente tre: 1. Qual è il potenziale dell’area del tetto che può essere riprogettata per accogliere nuovi usi e funzioni a Milano e per identificare le potenziali ubicazioni delle reti del tetto? 2. Come possono essere riprogettati e ri-sviluppati questi tetti per ottenere progressi significativi verso una nuova MILANO sostenibile, socialmente coesa e resiliente? 3. Come può essere integrata la nuova rete sui tetti con il paesaggio urbano esistente? Gli intenti del progetto di tesi sono principalmente tre: 1.La tesi propone di articolare le funzioni esistenti della copertura nel rispetto della funzione del paesaggio trovando così una soluzione all’attuale problema enunciato. 2.La tesi ha tentato di indagare le possibili funzioni che i tetti piani potrebbero ospitare in relazione a funzioni a larga scala urbana e fornendo una risposta alla congestione delle strade esistenti e alla mancanza di spazi aperti all’interno della città. 3. Una proposta per un kit di strumenti sul tetto e sul livello del suolo e una strategia completa per lo sviluppo del paesaggio multifunzionale del tetto.
