Abstract
In recent years, the growing interest in electric propulsion for ground vehicles and airplanes has intensified, owing to advancements in batteries and electric motors. Electric propulsion, driven by more reliable and powerful components, presents distinct characteristics conducive to scalable distributed propulsion solutions without substantial efficiency or specific power losses. The integration of Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) technology has become a pivotal focus in aviation research. Motivated by the need to curtail emissions, improve energy efficiency, and reshape air travel, this introduction provides an overview of key DEP developments, underscoring its potential to revolutionize aircraft sustainability and versatility. The work addresses design challenges and proposes innovative priliminary sizing procedures. Recognizing the intricate nature of DEP aircraft design, this study introduces a novel design method, unveiling a "meta-model" that seamlessly integrates structural sizing and aero-propulsive effects. This meta-model emerges as a promising solution for the preliminary sizing of various DEP configurations, offering a comprehensive approach to navigate the evolving aviation landscapeFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
