Archia: un nuovo orizzonte per il terminal crociere di Siracusa.

Syracuse, a thousand-year-old city in Sicily, has always been a land of conquerors and the scene of events that have left their mark on history. It is here that our project takes place, particularly along the west coast. This stretch of coastline is currently occupied by an industrial zone that does not enhance the seafront at all, but on the contrary, strongly contrasts with the great beauty of the eastern coast of Ortigia. A clear need, evident to us, was to move the maritime station out of the historic centre of Syracuse. This was to cope both with the enormous visual and landscape impact of a cruise ship within the city, and to give air to the already congested city traffic in the absence of cruise tourists. Hence our project for the new maritime station, which is part of a broader redevelopment plan involving the entire western waterfront of the city of Syracuse. The station, for us, thus becomes a point of arrival, not only for the tourists who dock with the cruise ship, but also for the cycle and pedestrian path that expands from the heart of the city.

Siracusa, città millenaria della Sicilia, da sempre terra di conquistatori e teatro di vicende che hanno lasciato il segno nella storia. È qui che ha luogo il nostro progetto, in particolare lungo la costa occidentale. Questo tratto di costa è attualmente occupato da una zona industriale che non valorizza per niente l’affaccio sul mare, ma anzi, contrasta fortemente con la grande bellezza della costa orientale di Ortigia. Una chiara necessità, a noi evidente, era quella di dover portare la stazione marittima al di fuori del centro storico di Siracusa. Questo per far fronte, sia all’enorme impatto visivo e paesaggistico di una nave da crociera all’interno della città, sia per dare aria al traffico cittadino già congestionato in assenza dei turisti delle crociere. Da qui nasce il nostro progetto per la nuova stazione marittima, che fa parte di un più ampio piano di riqualificazione che coinvolge tutto il waterfront occidentale della città di Siracusa. La stazione, per noi, diviene così un punto di arrivo, non solo per i turisti che attraccano con la nave da crociera, ma anche per il percorso ciclopedonale che si espande dal cuore della città.
