Why Mediterranean Sea? Mediterranean basin is considered a global “Hotspot” due to rising temperatures, and most vulnerable to anthropopic pressure and to the effects of climate change. For this reason it was considered relevant to explore this context. In the current era, there has been a change in the scale of exports and imports globally. Globalized maritime trade implies the use of ever larger ships (containers and tourists). This has a great impact both on the environment, in terms of con - sumption and emissions, and on the redesign of ports and cities. Maritime trade is the main driver of economic growth for port cities. However, the continuos expansion of the port, necessary to be competitive in global trade, makes the relationship with the city very difficult. Why Valencia? Valencia is one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean and has the highest freight traffic. As in many other areas of the Mediterranean, the relationship be tween the city and the port is still very problematic in Valencia. Before delving into this case study, we analyzed several port cities. The city of Valencia struck us for the presence of numerous brownfields and un - derutilized areas that straddle the port areas and the city, and above all in conti - nuity with the famous Turia Garden, one of the hydrogeological risk mitigation and most important urban regeneration at the end of the 1980s. This system of areas represents, in our opinion, a unique opportunity to investigate the relationship between port and city with respect to the more general topic of green ports and and to identify good practices and guidelines for port adaptation that can be replicated in other similar contexts.

Abstract
This system of areas represents, in our opinion, a unique opportunity to investigate the relationship between port and city with respect to the more general topic of green ports and and to identify good practices and guidelines for port adaptation that can be replicated in other similar contexts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
