The research is focused on imagination and immersive experience, and precisely on counterfactual thinking i.e., the imaginative ability to go backward in time and mentally explore potential alternatives to our actions; and on Augmented Reality (AR), intended as an imaginative tool able to let us experience alternative timelines and preferable possibilities while comparing them to the actual and current reality. The applicative context concerns what can be defined as More-than-Humans (MtH) i.e., all non-human actors, who bear a different perspective than humans and are endowed with their own agency. The research is positioned within design futures practices, addressing various approaches within them, such as speculative design, design fiction, and experiential futures. Being focused on imagination and immersive experience, other disciplines that informed the research have been cognitive psychology, neuroscience, social sciences, sustainable science, philosophy and philosophy of technology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), new and digital media studies, and User Experience (UX) design. Finally, applying a Research through Design (RtD) approach, the objective of the research is to produce a framework to be exploited by practitioners involved in design futures consisting of a toolkit and guidelines to design AR experiences, whose concepts are generated through a process based on counterfactual thinking, and that aims at enhancing awareness regarding More-than-Human perspectives.

Abstract
Finally, applying a Research through Design (RtD) approach, the objective of the research is to produce a framework to be exploited by practitioners involved in design futures consisting of a toolkit and guidelines to design AR experiences, whose concepts are generated through a process based on counterfactual thinking, and that aims at enhancing awareness regarding More-than-Human perspectives.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
