Abstract
The tower challenges the conventional notion of tall buildings amidst natural landscapes and low-rise constructions. Situated in the Amazon region of Ecuador, where issues like oil exploitation, deforestation, water pollution, and lack of education prevail, Tena emerges as a vibrant city, rich in biodiversity and culture. This unique setting presents an opportunity to redefine high-rise architecture towards sustainability, employing environmentally friendly materials and techniques. Understanding the site's natural conditions and cultural fabric is essential. The tower's scale strikes a balance between the natural and urban landscapes, linking low-rise structures to the grandeur of the mountains. "Amazon Healing" embodies a commitment to reimagining tall buildings, emphasizing local materials, and recycling industrial by-products to foster a cyclical and sustainable approach. Located at the terminus of an expansive park, the tower serves as a nexus between the urban North-South axis and the natural East-West axis, spanning the Amazon region and the Andes Mountain range. It integrates with the city through gaps, bridges, and bow windows, while its facades are designed to manage views, filter light, and mitigate urban noise. Inside, special volumes establish spatial connections, enhancing the building's functionality and aesthetic appeal. At the urban level, the design includes the Tena City Auditorium and a plaza sloping towards the tower, promoting spontaneous citizen interactions and social cohesion. An extensive green area to the east symbolizes the protective forest, shielding both inhabitants and the building from urban disturbances. With its holistic and sustainable approach, this tower not only serves as a landmark for Tena but also as a beacon of hope for the wider Amazonian community.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
