Nowadays, ESCOs are gradually playing a major role in the energy industry. This process is fostered by digitalization that is becoming a significant source of value for these companies, especially to shape EPC. These two factors are the driving motivations for conducting this study. The goals of the study are to analyze the state-of-the-art concerning digitalization technologies, used in ESCOs’ services provision, and the KPIs that are used for their evaluation. Starting from the present digitalization scenario and the research gaps emerged from the literature, screened using Scopus and Researchgate, the study proposes a tool for the evaluation of the technologies and comparison among them. Many interesting technologies emerged, of which some of them can be used for more than one service, that are: smart metering, AI-based solutions and blockchain. Concerning KPIs, financial-, internal processes- and environmental-related ones are the most used in the literature, while customer- and learning & growth-related ones are less present. Starting from the results of the review, the tool has been shaped to overcome the lack of a common system for the evaluation of the technologies. The founding principle of this tool is to consider non-financial performances, besides the financial ones. To give a structure to the tool, the concept of SBSC is used to organize the KPIs into 5 categories: financial, customer, internal processes, learning & growth, and sustainability. The study leads to many results. The first one is the provision of an overview of the available digitalization technologies for ESCOs. The second one is the tool that helps to evaluate the technologies found considering their differences both in terms of the investment required, the technological and environmental performance, and the effectiveness in serving the customer.

Abstract
The second one is the tool that helps to evaluate the technologies found considering their differences both in terms of the investment required, the technological and environmental performance, and the effectiveness in serving the customer.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
